INTELLIGENT PROPULSION

WHO WE ARE

Echandia Marine began with a naval architect’s mission to bring advanced submarine technology ‘to the surface’, revolutionizing the electric ferry market. Today, the Echandia team comprises naval architects, energy experts, management consultants and others, all passionate about environmentally-friendly vehicles. Together we decided to take steps to change the world by delivering silent, zero-emission passenger ferries in the range of approximately 70 to 300 passengers.

Environmentally-friendly electric ferries means cleaner cities: cleaner air and waters, an improved marine ecosystem,  a calm and invigorating boating experience.

PRODUCING CLEAN ENERGY FOR A CLEANER FUTURE

CO2 AND NOx EMISSION REDUCTION
Many city councils are today looking for ways to reduce emission of CO2 and NOX in their cities. Traffic is the main source and, as many cities are built close to waterways, there is an opportunity to use ferries or boats for public transport.

A typical ferry with a 250 kW diesel engine and 1800 hours runtime per year will consume 120 m3 of diesel, which is equivalent to 1200 MWh. The emission per year will be in the range of 300 tons of CO2, 3 tons of NOX and 150 kg of particles.

A corresponding electric driven ferry will have no emission and the consumed energy will be about 500 MWh. The energy efficiency is 90% compared to 28-35% for a diesel engine.

ENVIRONMENT

Zero emissions. Low fuel consumption. No gasoline and no noise pollution. A boat fitted with Echandia Marine's electric propulsion system uses about half the fuel of a conventional system. It is virtually noiseless and emits no harmful gases into the atmosphere.

PERFORMANCE

A near-silent experience, lower running costs, heightened maneuverability and flexibility of onboard arrangement. The superior performance of a boat fitted with Echandia Marine's propulsion systems makes it an investment with immediate returns.

THE FUTURE

The cost, scarcity and environmental impact of conventional fuels requires immediate action. There is a growing demand for alternative power solutions and fuel sources such as fuel cells. When these become readily available, Echandia Marine's systems can easily be converted.
